How do representations of the teaching profession in popular culture compare with the professional values of teachers? Representations of teachers are found in television, film, popular music teacher science education and other forms of media. This book provides an overview of education as it appears in popular culture, together with a framework through which student teachers, teachers teacher science education and educators can interpret these representations in relation to their own professional values teacher science education and development. The framework also links the portrayal of teachers with current educational discourses expressed through policy documents teacher science education and political teacher science education and professional debate. It demonstrates how popular culture both reflects teacher science education and constructs social teacher science education and professional ideas about the teacher by looking at a number of themes that are central to contemporary debates about education: * good teachers * bad teachers * sexuality of teachers * sexuality of pupils * bullying * pupil rebellion teacher science education and underachievement * school as acommunity * lifelong learning The authors draw conclusions about the ambivalent attitudes in society towards education teacher science education and teachers, teacher science education and argues that a construct of the teacher has developed that is so elevated teacher science education and romanticised that it cannot be achieved by real people.
